It all started when Peter Mangelsdorf was inspired to start a small Christmas display known as Christmas Wonderland. The 250m frontage of Peter's property is filled with a magnificent display of Christmas lights and images, ranging from Bethlehem scenes to popular characters dressed for the festive season.

In the late 1970's, Doug and Heather Falland (now both deceased), began decorating their 80ft TV tower with lights and also created a Christmas display in the front of their Hilbig Street home. The Fallands' enthusiasm was infectious and it wasn't long before their neighbours began decorating their homes and gardens as well.

The enthusiasm didn't stop there. More and more people throughout the town started to light up their homes and creating garden displays. Each year there is always something new to see and currently there are over 350 garden and light display. Soak up the festive atmosphere by a drive or a walk around the town.

In 1991, due to a large influx of visitors during this festive time a 'Loxton Christmas Lights Committee' was formed. It co-ordinates many of the Christmas events along with the Chamber of Commerce. The committee works throughout the year, planning and maintaining a large majority of the displays.

Loxton is situated in SA's Riverland: a 2.5 hour drive east of Adelaide.
